Texas, The Lone Star State. There is nothing above Texas, neither anything next to it. That is if you ask one of the states 22 million inhabitants.

A copy of the government building, Capitol in Washington D.C., has been built in Austin. But Texas Capitol surpasses the National Capitol in height, rising almost 15 feet above its Washington counterpart.

Besides being the capital of Texas, Austin is also a university city. The citys 6th street, a Mecca for partygoers, is packed with young people every Saturday night.

The faith is strong, and there is a wide range of different churches to choose from, if you want to worship the Lord. Just outside the city of Fisher, a ranch owner has lent "Cowboys for Jesus" his barn, a congregation with about 80 members.
Every Sunday the cowboy church holds a service in the "Shotgun Hall", the name of the barn.

In Texas, all citizens with no previous convictions, can own a gun, and keep it at home or in the car trunk. If you want to carry your gun, however, you need to attend a 10 hours course.

Texas is the state in the USA where the largest number of executions have taken place since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976. Edward Green III is 30 years old and is on death row in Huntsville, Texas. He is convicted for a double murder committed in 1992, where he, under the influence of drugs, shot a man and a woman during a robbery. This photograph is taken on September 29, 2003, in the prison’s visiting room. Edward Green III was executed six days later.

Two of the ten fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States, Laredo and McAllen, are located on the Texas-Mexico border. Estimates indicate, that the population of many border cities will double in 30 years. The population in the Texas border region is increasing at twice the rate of Texas as a whole.
Officers from the U.S. Border Patrol in McAllen are patroling the area along the Rio Grande river 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
The river defines the border between the United States and Mexico in this area.
