The election of Asmaa Abdol-Hamid
Reportage about the 26 years old muslim woman, Asmaa Abdol-Hamid, who fights for a seat in the Danish Parliament. She represents the left wing party: Enhedslisten.
One of the Party's main issues is equal rights for homosexuals and Queer people. They even have a "Queer" board.
Asmaa Abdol-Hamid agrees with the Party and it's politics.
The 24. october, The Danish prime minister, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, announced election day to be the 13. november.
During the election period Asmaa Abdol-Hamid visited the ghettos in Copenhagen, Odense and Aarhus. It is here the not well integreted and unemployed "new Danes" live. Many of them are moderate muslims.
Some of them are against homosexuality.
Asmaa covers her hair in traditional muslim manner and she won't shake hands with male persons. Some feminists define this as self-slavery. According to Asmaa, it is a matter of free expression and respect.
Her political voice allmost disappeared in the medias interest in her religious belief.
Asmaa Abdol-Hamid did not get enough votes to get a seat.
